Chapter 149

Karla, along with a man, ambled in the wet forest, listening to insects and birds. Listening to them, she presumed those creatures had started to lose their sanity. It was like some animals had given every other creature words about the massacre which had happened in the woods.

Trees also did not look sound. Despite of the regular rainfall, they seemed to be shedding leaves for no reason. Patches of bare sky made her to admire Wutke more.

Mighty Wutke is looking at us. We have his blessing.

Birds flew away from their nests, sensing their presence, alarming every other bird about their arrival.

The man walking behind Karla gave him an unpleasant touch on her buttock. His hand tightened around the curve so she slapped the hand away.

"Don’t you think I deserve this for the ring I gifted you?" man asked.

Karla looked at the gold ring and tried to scrum a big blot of blood from it, "You did not buy me this. Snatching a ring from a dead man is nothing to take pride on."

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

"What if I tell you I killed him for this ring?"

"You would have killed him regardless. Yofrah wanted all of those Calajhans killed."

"Please don’t say that any of those bastards would have brought you this beautiful ring."

"Beautiful?" she showed him the ornament, "This spot od blood makes me laugh on your words."

"Then I'll wash it away." the man caught her by her waist. Karla's hands went around his shoulders in no time.

She did not stop him from planting a kiss on her lips.

"Don’t hope for it now." Karla said, "It doesn’t take anyone half an hour to fetch mushrooms."

"I'll make it quick."

"Never."

"Like always, you don’t mean it."

"Watch –"

Karla felt an arrow go through her spine. She scrambled her hand on the man's back and found tip of the arrow in there.

She tried to force herself apart from the arrow which had pierced them both. Karla thought she could make it until the man died. His weight brought her down too.

While her vision blurred, she found a man with red eye searching for something in her pocket.
